I appreciate that they have extra time for boarding. I find that they depart early when they can and otherwise the plane is more likely to depart on time vs when they’d start boarding at the last minute. It’s hard to six-sigma your customers.
Exactly. Passengers are paying to get from point A to point B, it's up to DL to make this process as efficient as possible.
Flights to my home airport tend to have a lot of passengers bringing more items than allowed, which slows the boarding process. Been flying this route for 17 years and Delta has not figured out how to board these flights faster when departing JFK. On the way back at SDQ, half an hour before boarding, the ground staff starts walking around the gate area and offering to gate check carry-ons and any items in excess of two. During boarding, one ground staff member helps the crew to get passengers locate the nearest empty bin and to get seated quickly. Flights often push back several minutes early.
