Some airlines don't have their own ground operations at CDG, and they contract out to AF. For example, I flew China Southern airlines last month from CDG, check-ins were all handled by AF staff (although not at AF counter), even boarding passes were printed on AF boarding pass.
Most airlines use contract staff at outstations.
But you still have to go to their dedicated counters for check-in, not the AF counters.
I assume that VN uses different softwares than AF.
