Since the map topic comes up fairly often here (maybe the fifth or sixth most common), I'd like to float the idea of making this thread a catch all for map related discussion. Towards this end, we could request a moderator to make the title a little more generic (e.g. "the map thread") and give it a wikipost (for us to fill in, as we see fit).

Of course, we could start a brand new maps thread instead, but I'm personally fond of this thread because the conversation itself highlights/explains a lot of the underlying issues (I.e. a little more credible then simply saying google sucks, and more efficient than explaining why every time).
