Just curious if any other US award tickets done this recently?
That's not the way it works. You always get all of the Avios back, if it is a redemption ticket. You then get the cash back, but there is a $55 redeposit fee. The service centre fee is only charged if you call to cancel, normally you can do it online, and if you can't then that's a reason to ask the service fee not to be charged. So on a $82 cash component, you should get $27 refunded in addition to the Avios. $55 is the maximum charge, if the cash component was $6 (typical for domestic AA legs) then you just forfeit the $6 and nothing more to pay.
