I’ve learnt the hard way never to pick row 1 on LGW flights!

OP, like a lot of things at BA, it’s a best endeavours basis. There is an email that goes out, but for some reason it doesn’t always happen. I’d say 20% of the time ime, but of course ymmv. I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on trying to work out why, or your brain will hurt. They’re still a fairly decent airline, despite inept IT.
