I don't fly American much, but I do have a ton of AAdvantage miles, and wife and I want to use those to go to the Carribean.

My question: are the policies and perks for an award ticket more like "basic economy" or "main cabin" ? In particular, what are our seat selection options, and do we get any free checked bags ? I have not reached "gold" status. I do not currently hold an AA-branded credit card (although I probably have time to get one). TIA.
