So the follow on question is if "first class upgrade" tix are purchased, do they get overall priority once AS releases F seats for upgrades?

So, for example at T120 when 100k's may get upgraded, would the "first class upgrade" purchased tix get seated before any status level?
If you purchase an upgrade eligible fare for your status and there is upgrade availability, you will be upgraded immediately after purchase. If there isn't upgrade availability at the time of ticket purchase, you are immediately added to the upgrade waitlist. Those not on eligible fares will be added to the upgrade request queue for their status and remain there until their upgrade window opens. At that time, they will be slotted into the upgrade waitlist on a variety of factors (MM status, fare class purchased, date & time of purchase), so not a FIFO (first-in-first-out) methodology.

If upgrade availability never opens before the first upgrade window opens (100K @ T-120 hours) then there is significant risk that your final position on the waitlist will not get upgraded, even though purchasing a higher fare class would give you a higher position.

Personally, I would never pay more for an eligible fare if I couldn't confirm the upgrade at purchase. Even then, it may not make sense if the eligible fare upgrade cost is too high. Of course, sometimes last minute, the lowest available fare may already be eligible.

All that will be changing later in 2025.
