It gets a bit tricky in the fact that you beed to be a member of China Southern Airlines to do it. Just join skypearl and from there, once logged into the website, click online services and then seat select. You'll then add the eticket number and name. That's it select your seat or pick special meals.

Dont need a Skypearl account. You can login by using your email address and having a code sent to it. It's a bit weird process. However i managed to do seats/OLCI. Note Yahoo emails are not accepted but Google will work. You don't sign up for an account. You simply click link to login with email (instead of cell, as only mainland cell numbers work). Click get code, enter code and you are now "logged" in. You then can pull up trip with ticket number. Honestly IMO easier to call and deal with Chinese agents. However if can't call it's an option.

I was also able to book my seats at the time of booking
I tried to add my SAS EB gold but it was not in the drop down list,so selected BA instead
Obviously, I got all that done without being a sky pearl member
its a business class booking
Is SAS a partner? CZ is not part of Skyteam.
