As long as you board when it’s ok to board, I would just ask the poacher to exit your seat or tell FA that someone is in your seat. Lucky that you’re not needing overhead space.

I politely said no thank you. She said "You don't understand, I'm asking you to swap so my child can sit next to me." I replied "YOU don't understand, I am declining your offer, I booked a window seat and I am going to sit in it". She gave me a professional grade stinkeye as her kid got up and moved across the aisle. The flight attendant then thanked her for being 1K but did not thank me LOL. …
Is it possible to complain to UA that FA thanked your neighbor and not you for being 1K? Maybe it’s worth 1000 miles?
it is an UTTER SHAME that the child didn’t burst out crying. as a parent, I still agree with your approach and as a parent, I switched to just buying C or F instead of hoping for an upgrade.
I am actually impressed that the neighbor got upgraded. There are usually zero upgrades on my regular sfo/ord route :-)

I only ask as I am in 9L for my upcoming flight to SYD and wanted to chance boarding after most economy pax have boarded. Just don't want some Jackal pulling off a stunt like that. Looks like I will board early...
for Polaris I want to board as early as possible and just enjoy my nice seat. And in general I board when I can because I need that overhead space.
