Russian and Ukrainian airspace does screw things up. Some carriers now have to load more crew on to deal with the diversion. Via Asia consumes huge amounts of crew time. However, SQ is short of aircraft and they would welcome NZ on the route but it would require the JV to be extended to Air NZ by the UK Government - not something that can be done quickly or cheaply.
And Iran, Israel, etc airspace. That entire area is a mess. QF flying out of Perth is most probably almost the best of the bunch now, as South of most of the airspace.
Given that I don't think picking up a route from Asia to Europe would be much of a goer right now.
