Years ago I accommodated a seat swap in coach on a ORD-CDG flight so that a family could sit together. My battlefield upgrade came through much to my surprise and the GA was confused when she came on looking for a man (based on my first name) and a woman was in my seat. Perhaps karma played a role in getting that upgrade.
