One of the nice things about the MSY-LHR flight is that it departs MSY late enough that you can eat some real food in New Orleans before the flight, or if you don't have the chance to do that, some almost real food at the airport at MSY before boarding (not the lounge, which is not great). Yes, it would be nice if the airplane food were equally satisfying, but it rarely is on any flight departing from any airport, so I'd rather shell out the money to eat the better food and then maximize my sleep on the flight.
Yeah, I had kind of figured not to expect all that much on the plane so we'd eaten well in the city. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised by the lounge - not the buffet, which was hopeless, but the food ordered online was much better than I expected. The bar service though was shocking - when you;ve come from a city from every bartender can knock out a cocktail in a matter of seconds, it was quite painful watching the barman spend 5 minutes trying to figure out an Old Fashioned
