My goal is to book my children basic economy tickets, and book me and my wife with regular economy tickets. That leaves my wife and I open for an upgrade and checked baggage with my status. However, when I go to book my kids it won't let me book them because it's a connecting flight and even if it were direct, they would want to charge $150 for unaccompanied minors. I'm guessing there probably isn't any way around this? My only solution would be to book my wife in basic economy, set aside any upgrade chances, and book me in economy to get the free checked bags with my status? Would love to know if I'm missing some other solution. Thanks for the feedback.
