That's sad to read about. I love Qatar and their service. This is really bad customer service on Qatar's part. If this is an issue that occurs on many of their flights then they need to be proactive to make sure this doesn't happen on boarding. Would make me think twice about flying Qatar as I like to know where I am sitting before I board. Will still fly Qatar in business class as it is just amazing compared to U.S. airlines.
Sounds like its the poacher not QR at fault here, but when in Rome and all, I really dont think its a huge deal to follow the customs of the country youre in in this situation (booking A C hoping B is free) to be honest.
