Yup, go and explain the situation, emphasise that your ticket is flexible pending availability (but dont do the 'do you kno who I am' thing ) and that you are more than willing to wait on the side-lines with your luggage until the flight closes.

They should then do what they have to do and direct you to the waitlist desk (I think these are the FBD desks as well now)
