One criterion I use in my seat selection is which side the seat power is on, because I don't like having my laptop power cord draped over my legs. I find seat poachers quite irritating even when they think they're offering me a like-for-like swap to the other side of the plane, they are not.

I have had several poachers this year, most of them were children, the result of their entitled parents instructing them to just sit in my seat and tell me to move. In one case, a lady had her maybe 8 year old kid sitting in my window seat in F, they had been upgraded into the seats which is why they hadn't booked a pair, she asked if I would take her kid's aisle seat across from her instead. I politely said no thank you. She said "You don't understand, I'm asking you to swap so my child can sit next to me." I replied "YOU don't understand, I am declining your offer, I booked a window seat and I am going to sit in it". She gave me a professional grade stinkeye as her kid got up and moved across the aisle. The flight attendant then thanked her for being 1K but did not thank me LOL. The kid could not care less that he was across the aisle from his mommy instead of right next to her. He played on his Nintendo Switch for the entire flight.
