And if you book a revenue fare, you need to exclude taxes from MQD earnings as only base fare counts. Domestically, it will likely be in $1000 range total cost for a $900 base fare. DL Vacation packages will also work, but again, taxes/fees must be excluded (there is an MQD calculator for DL Vacations bookings). 10% bonus mean 79K miles = $1000 in value which may be somewhat better than you will get with Skymiles award bookings (plus, you don't have to pay for a hotel separately with the DL Vacation packages). You can partially pay for package with miles and cash for rest and still get promo deal.
A final option is booking flights with a partner which earn mileage based MQDs. It looks like you can get AM Plus fares on EWR-MID for around $700 roundtrip which will earn over $1000 MQDs.
