You have 2 mechanisms.
1) Mennens as per APR, the UK version of EC261. See the main EC261 thread and wiki for details on this.
2) A direct refund of the upgrade costs.

Because of the way Mennens works, it may be in this scenario 2) is the better option, so you are best to do a quick calculation of 1, using the wiki worked examples, to see what that would give, and then compare with what you actually paid. If 2) is better then just claim for that, and you should do that if this is slightly less too, since BA will probably do that refund fairly quickly. 1) requires a fares specialist and may get held up. Once you have worked it out, apply for the refund here, making it very clear that it is Mennes or a direct refund.
