I was on Garuda DPS-SYD and our flight was rescheduled to a later time, I wanna say from 2215 to 2330 but that had been done much earlier in the day, it seemed like it had more to do with the inbound flight being late than anything else.

So yes, 100% have backup options at the ready, but double check your airline specifically and if you're flying a major carrier...maybe don't worry too much . I will say DPS, I've been there before but I was O/D and it's kind of a nightmare, it's open air so it's hot and humid inside. However, a MAJOR improvement was the customs process, in my other trip there I spent at least 60 minutes in customs lines, this time, I spent extra on the e-visa (seems dumb in retrospect as the VOA is 1/4 the cost and had short lines) but there's e-gates! So as long as you comply with their multiple QR code forms to do, it's not bad at all, I was outta there very quickly, only to then have to wait at burger king because the check-in for Garuda didn't open until D-3 hours and yet another flight I couldn't check in online.

Oh yea, to be clear, I don't have beef with the requirement, I've just never been asked either at point of departure OR entry into thailand. It's the same for colombia, they have the requirement but in my 30+ trips I've only been asked twice, once on arrival and once in Toronto by the Copa airlines people. Normally I have that stuff at the ready, I had it for every other leg, for this one I was playing it a bit more by ear so I hadn't booked my flight yet, that was my bad, but Chinese internet made it kind of touch and go.
low costs and long hauls dont want planes stuck hence the cancellations!
