I have two 4-night reservations in Bangkok. One at the Holiday Inn Express Soi Soonvijai and one at the Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam. The first doesn't seem to be on any BTS or MRT lines, but is only around 8K IHG points / nt. The latter is on the BTS at the National Stadium stop but costs 16K IHG points/nt, so 2X the stay cost. I'm running out of IHG points after having used most of mine during a one-month trip to Asia.
Considering Grab rides are so cheap, would it make sense to stay at the 8K/nt property? It's near the Bangkok Hospital and not much else from what I can tell, but is a nice property. Not too sure what's of interest around the HIX Siam other than the MBK Mall and the Jim Thompson house (I don't have any interest in textiles). Both savings and convenience of transportation and/or staying in a cool area with interesting things to do.
The 32K IHG points I'd save staying at one hotel vs. the other are worth around USD $250. I figure I may have to use Grab twice a day, on the high end at 200 baht per ride = 400 baht/day, x 4 days = 1600 baht; just under $50, saving my $200 total and having the luxury of two Grab rides a day vs. taking the BTS and probably having to change lines to go anywhere.
No other IHG properties are available for my dates (next week), and even the properties I reserved are out of award inventory, so I have no other IHG property options for this trip. Spending the other 4 days using points at the Hilton Grande Asoke at the Sukhumvit MRT stop / Terminal 21.
