Not unlike almost every other financial business and loyalty program who often make bonuses and promotions available to new (or only some other) customers. Agreed that as an existing customer it’s annoying, but it’s also nice when you’re a new customer.

I’ll not debate the “is it worth it” question but I will relate completely different customer service experiences. I’ve had a Bask account since the bank opened (and basically replaced BankDirect) in November 2019. Overall I’m satisfied with their customer service. I easily linked 5 different external accounts (3 checking, 1 savings, 1 brokerage) and have often made transfers both ways between each of those accounts, sometimes for 6 figure amounts. Bask has also (upon my request) waived wire transfer fees a couple of times.
This thread is 180 pages, 2700 posts. Since the BD-Bask change 40 pages and 600 posts. There are certainly reports of similar customer service issues but overall relatively few in number.
