If that was all same day then you 100% got hosed by the GA. I would have been very upset, especially w it green right in front of them. They maybe had to do a manual entry and didn’t know how and gave up.
As I recall, there was an extended discussion upthread about whether this is the "correct" outcome, and most seemed to think that the separate PNR is a valid basis for UA to reject entry at the final destination airport.
