I have had an unexpected good recent experience on this topic.

Landed in London from Asia and my flight to Germany was cancelled and rebooked for the next day. I had a 1 night booked in Munich that day and as the cancellation policy was for midnight the night before I contacted the hotel via the app, they initially said they would remove the 1st night from my booking and after clarifying that I only had 1 night booked they cancelled and never charged me.

Expect nothing, but ask, be reasonable, and see what happens.

Based on my experiences, That sounds like nonsense, the hotel always has the discretion to update the booking in the Hilton system. The exception is for points bookings as those are centrally managed.

I just gave an example of a cancellation in my previous post but also had existing reservations changed by the hotel team.
