That is correct. Effectively the first N XP, where N is the requirement for the next lower status, are wasted in the soft landing unless you requalify.
So if I'm gold and I earn 100 XP by the end of the status period, I am downgraded to silver and go to zero. But if I'm gold and I earn 0 XP in the entire period, it's the exact same result? Either way I end up with zero (because negative is not allowed) and back to silver?
