If you're a 1K, traveling by yourself, applying 1K PlusPoints to a CPU-eligible, YBM fare will move you down the upgrade list, as you will now be waiting for PZ instead of PN. Applying GS PlusPoints might put you ahead of GS CPUs, but I kind of doubt it and suspect we'll never get proof.
If you are traveling with someone else, you're not eligible for the instant upgrade unless you split the reservation, so applying PlusPoints would take you from off the list to onto it.
I'm silver flying with a companion (no status) on SFO-IAD dreamliner. Purchased B econ fare so should be CPU eligible. My adult daughter who is 1K applied her plus points to my reservation because I hoped that would help me and my traveling companion get upgraded. Should I have the plus points removed to help my upgrade chance or does it not matter because I am only a lowly silver? No PZ or PN availability at time of booking.
