I'm pretty sure that when the A350 was introduced, there were surcharges built into fare rules for flights operated on this equipment. I suspect that's long gone, but it certainly supports the theoretical argument.
The point isn't about whether or not Delta is in the right or wrong here. Airlines are very clearly in the wrong for continually marketing their flagship products everywhere, when it may not be the case. Look at the infamous Qatar QSuites.
The issue is whether or not you have a valid claim to lodge a complaint, where there will be recourse in the form of compensation. And the answer is almost certainly no, as this does not violate the contract of carriage. Delta One Suites isn't a different fare class, it's just a different seat you can be offered in the Delta One bucket.
You can certainly try and pursue something if it happens, and you might be lucky like those people in
New Zealand w/ Emirates.
Anyways, all of this is precluding a plane swap, which may or may not happen.
