Since it’s so light and without glass, it may make more sense to have the UPS Store or FedEx Office box it up
for you and just ship it.
Even if it fits in the overhead or closet, I would be concerned of damage from other bags shifting during flight
I'd echo this. The size wouldn't concern me, but rather the risk of damage (unless it's super well-padded/in a box...in which case it may be too large to be a reasonable carry-on). Other bags could shift around and crush it, whether it's in the closet or the overhead bin.
