I did the indirect option once (actually with Etihad), flight got cancelled, I got stuck in traffic, by the time I’d rebooked the only option was EK with a connection we missed because that was also delayed, ended up arriving in BLR after having been up all day and all night, aside from anything else I felt terrible - and this was in J/F.

I avoid ME stopovers wherever possible because you end up with awkward connections which interrupt sleep across two relatively short flights. Doesn’t matter what class you’re in.
