I'm sure WS mgmt has calculated all the losses and savings for the decisions made, even taking into account alienating the previously-strong regional loyalty. While YYC isn't everything, there are a good number of people needing to get to/from tertiary and secondary destinations that only WS serves with any frequency which makes for a captive market
My plan is to go with whatever consolidator offers the cheapest non-economy class flight on a route I need or want to fly.
Perhaps that is the difference between most of WS's base and travellers like you and I: We don't fly non-economy and perhaps out of the country to non-sun spots, and have available choices to do such.
