Thanks. After doing both I decided to call in. Following the disclaimer "offered to select passengers on select flights" the agent suggested the disqualifying factor was my first connecting flight is in economy, so the system did not pick up the need to send the email. Unfortunately the number of pre-orders for the flight has been reached and is no longer available.
