I had a similar reaction. The original Suites are more elegant (drawing inspiration from yachts, I their successors are more modern. Moreover, I have always found it a bit odd that SQ allows for such a big gulf in the F (77W) cabin versus the Suites cabins on the A380s. Compare to EK which has the opposite now (Game Changer F on the 77W). There's definitely room for more comparable Suite-like experiences on the A350s and 777s (see also Lufthansa Allegris F).
Hopefully this new F will go a much longer way towards bridging that gap. Looks like no separate bed versus seat, but that's not necessary (see EK Game Changer F). I do worry, though, that this design, while a "quantum leap" over the existing F, might still be outclassed by the new Air France La Premiere F cabin and the new Cathay Pacific "Halo Suites" F cabin.
Based on the footprint it's also a step down from the new Qantas F which is in a 1-1-1 configuration.
