Short summary is: good news! I received a 9k statement credit for the points that were not able to be refunded due to the account being closed.
That is good news and I'm glad to see that they awarded you the $9k credit. I'm just wondering if you didn't already have to pay that charge since it's from August?
Also interesting that they are generating bills on a closed account but I guess they can do that if balances remain.
ETA: Amex states that in mid August they refunded the points of 400k+ and 500k+ to the account but they were removed since the account was closed. They say they also removed the bonuses received for same. But I'm totally not understanding how they did this is the MR account was closed and their previous mantra was that they can't refund because it's closed?
(On a side note, it seems to me that by receiving the cash credit OP was indeed able to cash out their MR points at the higher rate with 35% back since the account was closed and essentially there were no points to refund/ remove even though they claimed they did that.)
