FWIW, Ultimate Reservation Guarantee at Marriott does not apply for advanced cancellation/walk. Any bonus points provided by the hotel is at the whim of the hotel and not guaranteed. I had this happened to me at an Element property, and the Bonvoy Lurker team on here basically shrugged.

So no, the grass is not greener on the other side.
