Assuming you haven't the status for free selection and given your understandable aversion to the cabin location described, I would simply add the seat selection fee to the basic price and then see whether you can find what you consider a better product (using your own criteria for factors such as schedule, comfort, catering and reliability) at the same or lower price elsewhere.
