13%- wow
Properties may not see much drop in occupancy rates, but what they may see is a reduction in direct bookings. The large hotel chains have negotiated somewhere around a 13% commission with Expedia and other large booking platforms- that’s quite a big chunk of room revenue, especially compared to the relatively limited cost of providing the elite benefits some properties are so loathe to offer.
Wonder about the 13% #. and that might be why in China there are others, such as Flying pig which has 'most' Marriott loyalty benefits inclusive with bookings.
