As others have said, 55 minutes under normal circumstances should be fine. But be prepared and familiarize yourself with the airport ahead of time to hit the ground running when you land, and research possible alternatives, plan B, plan C, etc.

I connected in MSP last week, ANC-MSP-PHL, with a 1 hr 25 minute connection. I normally try to aim for 2+ on each connection, but this was the only option that could work based on my work schedule and would get me to PHL in time for an event. Any misconnects the event would be surely missed with a later in the day flight to PHL. Here’s how it went:

Inbound was on time to ANC. Boarded on time and door closed 10 minutes early. Then we spent 40 minutes, waiting on airport maintenance to come and move the jetway as it broke. So my 1 hr 25 connection was reduced to 55 minutes. Then, we had to deice, which took another 25, leaving me right at 30 minutes. I was very worried that VYPR, which is DL’s automatic rebooking tool, would boot me off my flight if my connection got reduced anymore below 30 minutes. We made up about 15 minutes in the air, arriving right at 45 minutes. Then there was no jet bridge driver at our arrival gate. Once they arrived, and door opened, was exactly at 40 minutes. We arrived at G22 (I think) and departed F7. I got to the gate just as they called preboards, and I was seated in row 3 on the inbound.

So I ultimately made it with a few to spare, but had to hurry and had a few worrisome moments.

Just be prepared.
