Considering the 788 has 20J and a lot more coach seats in the back, it would seem the upgrade ratio is better on the XLR for those wishing to cash in milage or SWUs assuming the seats aren't already taken buy J fare paying pax or upgrade offers....

Because they are also replacing the domestic A321T Premium transcon aircraft, the first 10-15 deliveries will be assigned to those routes. We won't see the XLR on Europe routes until 2026 at the earliest, where we may see markets like EDI, MAN, SNN, TXL, etc. Nothing has been announced in terms of what routes they will get (and which seasons).
