For what it's worth I find public area at Fiumicino excellent for coffee and light snacks. I don't go for bacon and sausages etc, so I can't really comment on that. I sometimes (depending on time available) forgo the lounge, many of which can be annoying, for the terminal anyway. I think it's a good clean well run airport.
Thanks, that helps. We haven't been to Italy in or FCO since like 2010 or 2011, so all I remember is a pretty poor *A lounge voucher from UA. :-) We aren't looking for a massive breakfast, so if the terminal is decent I could see us skipping the lounge even. My recollection of FCO was that it was not great but I am very dated in my experience. The current *A lounge looks great so bummed it won't be open.
