We have been QR Gold for a while since travelling a lot pre covid. However and post covid we are only travelling three times a year, long haul and for leisure.
The companion voucher is being used for the first time in three weeks as we travel to SIN after we let the last one expire inadvertently but as my QR/OW status is going fizzle away I need a new strategy.
The issue we have is that we are from Manchester and it’s a much more pleasurable experience to fly with QR, EK or EY (even Oman were brilliant) but this sporadic approach won’t allow me to earn or gain any status. However, I do shop around and rarely pay 2.5k pp return (usually to SIN or KUL)
We would (regrettably) qualify for the spend for two Companion Vouchers a year but I doubt I would have actually accrued the right amount of Avios for two long haul CW flights (and it’s still BA!) and can’t decide whether two cards (if poss) is worth it.
is anyone in a similar boat? Do you find value in buying the avios or paying for seats on “better” airlines and in this instance, does status really matter?
Yes, we do and find value in getting 2 vouchers, we don't normally have to buy avios, but I should say we usually combine the amex vouchers with gufs, so we get to go in first or reduce the quantity of avios by using premium economy level of avios to travel in CW depending on routing.
