We are in the bulkhead row of F RDU-JFK next month. We both have fairly standard size carryons for a 2 week hotel and cruise vacation (plus one checked bag each). The E-175 overheads look tiny so are we likely to gate check our bags? We have plenty of connection time and it’s my understanding that we should arrive in T8 from RDU where we pickup our JL flight to HND.

In F you have a larger bin on the left (that will fit most standard sized rollers if not overstuffed), The right side has a tiny bin that will fit backpack/purses at most. I'd suggest trying to be one of the first to board to guarantee space within the F cabin.
AA does have bag tracking in the app - it works pretty well in my opinion.
