SWU and other parts of the loyalty program are designed to drive future behavior, not reward past behavior.
However, what AA is doing is clearly working to drive pax away (based on post-covid performance and various earnings reports.)
It's an odd mix though, as the premium cabins seem full but that hasn't led to great financial performance (which has been underwhelming for a while).
