For the doestic flying get lounge acces via a card. As you said, only real advantage is IRROPs and someone with knowldge of flying and a subscrition to EF can negotiate resolutions for themselves.
There are 2 reasons why I care about mid-level status for domestic Y:
* Free access to economy+ seats at booking. This gives me tangible benefit of hundreds of dollars
* Group 1 boarding - this ensures I can still find space in the overhead for my duffel BEFORE massive rollers are crammed in
