Congratulations on your new lifestyle! I've done a little of all types of traveling and for long term, I have decided that using Pelican Air 1615 (regular or Trvl version) is the way to go.

The number #1 thing you will face at unpredictable times are rain showers that will soak most luggage. Pelican is crushproof, waterproof, smoke/dust proof, vibration proof, fireproof to some degree and it has locking capabilities.

I've been using 2 just on a 2 month trip. One person can easily handle two, pushing and pulling when you get the hang of it. And a personal bag could fit on top.

I steered away from the black color and put stickers all over the brand name etc...to deter anyone from thinking camera equipment was inside.

I used to use Patagonia Black hole duffels. But pelican is so much better for long term travel. They can take a beating.

....and they are authorized for check baggage. Using lightweight packing cubes will certainly help make more room for more stuff too.
