I did a little bit more digging and found some evidence that the Northern South America CPUs that I remembered did, in fact, get removed even though they never became Polaris routes, and, to your point, have now been reinstated. My apologies.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, apparently these flights were not RPU-eligible during the CPU interregnum — you had to use a GPU. So 20 PlusPoints is, comparatively, a deal.
