I need some education on calculating my demand to Qantas. I am being downgraded from Cairns to Sydney on a full fare multi itinerary domestic flights ticket.

No explanation. The fare includes a multitude of flights and was several thousand dollars. I am not yet accepting anything, other than I will be flying economy involuntarily.

Unfamiliar with QF policies or any Australia consumer protections if any. A comparison of one way unrestricted economy to business on this route appears to be a difference $1,300 Australian. I suspect they will try to shortchange me as it is very difficult to calculate the segment of the downgrade.

Also was counting on the Cathay points on class of service which I suspect will be an issue of argument. FWIW I am one world ruby.

Any suggestions?
