Surprise on check-in [seats changed]
I am taking two grand-daughters to London for a few days for their birthdays. We are flying tonight but I booked the flights back in January. We are flying from Montreal so the first leg is an overnight flight so I got Club World tickets so that we can have a decent sleep. Return will be in economy..
I paid a ridiculous amount for the seat selection ($949) for the four of us. I booked early to make sure that we have good seats and are next to each other. When doing the online check-in last night, I discovered that we have been moved to other seats (still in Club world) and that we are not seating together. We are scattered all over in the back of the section.
I called customer service and was told that it was for operational reasons ( I know that the T&C says that we can be moved for operational reasons) and was told to call them back after the trip. So my questions are, what can "operational issues" be? I assume that my original seats won't be empty and I'll see someone sitting there. We got bumped to make the seats available for BA employees or someone with a higher status? What tis the point of paying a fairly large amount to book seats if they just put you wherever they want? What can I expect when I call them after the trip? They'll will simply say sorry and give me some of my money back?
I used to fly first class to London every other week but I am now retired and have no status. This possibly explains it.
