If you are willing to add an o/night stop in HKG, then why not add the o/night at JFK. Head BOS-JFK one afternoon/evening, stay overnight ready for the JFK-NRT flight the following morning.

Otherwise go ahead and buy the 26,000 mile fare. But by the time you get to that fare cost, a DONE4 becomes attractive . It all comes down to how you rate the importance of cost verses time, and only you can answer that one.
