Warsaw is a very compact city and easy to get around via tram & metro (or by merely walking via the grand parks). I stayed at the IC, which is about halfway between the Hilton and old town, and I absolutely loved it. The imposing Palace of Culture and Science is just across the street, and I never tired seeing that monument of communist grandeur. It has a very nice top-floor pool and gym looking over the palace, as well as much of Warsaw. As much as I love what they did to rebuild the old town, it definitely feels as much like an amusement park as it does an historic city center. The restaurants there are all very touristy, and you will likely find better options near the Hilton.
I second the vote for the Warsaw IC. Super close to tram lines taking you anywhere in the city.
