The A350 does create some slack in the fleet, so far 6 has been added to the fleet and only 1 777-300ER has been retired so far. Though long term the deliveries are not meant to expand the fleet. There are additional 787 on order which are also meant for fleet expansion. Though open question when Boeing will get around to delivering.
PDX is one of the persistent rumours, but if the market was indeed so attractive, I would have thought either ANA or JAL would have picked it up by now.
