I had the same problem earlier this year. Regulars in TG forum told me to download SAS or Lufthansa mobile app and change it right there.
Obviously SAS won't work anymore but you can try LH app.
Actually, SAS works perfectly still. Just managed to change seats on an upcoming booking; much smoother than using the TG app.
